Yoga for Kids with Autism
With Laura Hopson
Laura has taught yoga to children across the Autistic Spectrum for many years.
She currently runs yoga courses for children, teenagers and young adults with SEN, many of whom have Autism, at the Saraswati Yoga Studio in Sutton.
Laura also teaches in a number of local specialist and mainstream schools (both primary and secondary) and also privately in students’ homes. If your child attended the Easter or Summer interAKtive play schemes, they may well have taken part in one of Laura’s yoga sessions there.
Laura has used her years of experience as a yoga teacher and mum of a teenager with Autism, to develop classes that are engaging, enjoyable and highly accessible.
Clear step by step, manageable and visually explicit instructions guide the children through easy to follow breathing techniques, moving yoga, basic poses and relaxations.
Each balanced session provides an opportunity for the children to develop focus and concentration, manage their emotions, improve balance, coordination, and enhance spatial awareness and sensory processing.
Laura aims to nurture a compassionate and understanding environment in which children and parents/carers can feel at ease.
She appreciates how demanding it can be for some children on the spectrum to attend new activities. Should any children require one to one support or be distressed, Laura works with the parent/carer to settle their child and help them to participate as best they can.
Laura is confident that these classes are accessible to many children across the wide range of the Autistic Spectrum but if you have any questions please feel free to contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org or on 07905504818
Children can do the session alongside a parent/carer or on their own, however parents need to remain on the premises for the duration of the session. You will need to bring a mat or thick towel/blanket with you.
Places must be booked in advance.
Cost: £3 per child payable in advance.
Booking: Will open to members shortly.
